A dream, and a reading ...
Last night I dreamed one of those "big dreams" ... and awoke this morning with a ferocious urge to make sense of it ...
The dream: I'm with my friend F., who I used to work with. We're with her amazing family (her father, in particular, is a stellar person -- loving, gentle, all-seeing and all heart) at their home in the country (which is located in a place I lived during my early and mid-teenage years). F's sister is shot and killed by a man who has come from the woods ...
I'm outside, standing by a car, and see the murder ... Suddenly, my friend A. (with whom I also once worked, and with whom I share a deep love of music, cats, and chocolate) is standing behind me, hissing, GET AWAY! ... I'm on my belly, scuttling backward through grass at the edge of a forest ... I shimmy like a snake into the trees, and for an eternity, I am trying to find a way out of this forest ... Sometimes I'm on foot (or on my belly); sometimes in a car -- a huge sedan. My husband is now with me ... We encounter several groups of hikers and families -- One group of kids and adults is mudsliding, having a great time ... They invite my husband and I to join them, but my attention is fixed on getting out of this wood and to my parents ... Eventually G. and I emerge from the maze of trails and trees and I go to my parents ... I tell them about the murder, and how I evaded being killed ... I know the killer is still out there, and he wants my blood ... but for now, I am safe ...
This dream is one in a thematic series that I've had for years -- that of being pursued relentlessly by a killer. The dreams have evolved over the years -- I am an adult now; not alone; I am surrounded by allies, and am not overtaken ...
I awoke from this dream and scrabbled for my coins ... I received Hexagram 10, CONDUCT, with changing lines 3 and 5, moving to Hexagram 14, GREAT WEALTH. It seems that the reading tells me that I both make and unmake danger ... Whether intentionally or not, I tread on a tiger's tail just by being somewhere ... Being alive is full of both dangers and havens ...
I'm reminded by this dream of Dante's Divine Comedy, which begins with Virgil's admission that he is lost, wandering in a wood ...
In the middle of our journey of life, I came to myself within a dark wood where the straight way was lost ...
Friends, help me to make sense of this dream ...

No, I've not seen Renee's blog ... will visit ... Thanks xo
Interesting, very interesting.
To see a killer in your dreams usually suggests essential aspects of your emotions that have been cut off. You may be feeling that you are losing your identity and even more than that your individuality. When we think of the woods we see innocence and spirituality. If you are running out of the woods it would appear that you are expressing or have a need to express some anxiety about leaving behind something that is familiar to you.
It seems to me that there is a part of you that you want desperately to resurrect. A piece of you from childhood that you are still hanging on to; and you do need to hang on to it. Others want you to let go of it, but you mustn’t.
Because the killer has seen you enter the woods it would suggest that you are hanging on to whatever it is in your childhood that you want to resurrect. The killer is the part of yourself that disconnects from emotions and conscience. The killer wants to put an end to old parts of yourself that others and the killer think should be left alone.
Others may think your actions are childish and that is where the crawling comes in. But I’m telling you they are not childish. They are what makes you; you.
Because you witnessed the murder in your dream it represents a deep hatred or anger that you have towards somebody. It happened in a childhood area with a childhood friend so this has occurred in childhood and you are still fuming mad about it.
Like many things that happen in childhood, you may not remember what it is but there is an anger that you may not know where it comes from. I would look into something in your past; it may involve an injustice to either yourself or someone you love.
I think the fact that you woke up with a strong urge to find out what this dream means tells me that you are searching through your unconscious for a better understanding of yourself.
What did you love as a child that other people wanted you to drop out of your life. What aspect of yourself did some adult tell or hint to you that they didn’t accept. Get it back, because you need it.
That will be 5 cents.

What stands out in these recurring dreams (I've been having them since about 1983) is that over time, the dream-me is evolving into a more active character ... I've always run / hid in these dreams ... but I am adult now; I have powerful allies (my husband and kin) ... and safety no longer means that I'm just squashed out of sight in a closet or under a bed, alone and small ... Safety now means containment within relation ... That makes all the difference ...
Renee, thank you so much for your thoughtful words ... There is something in us all, isn't there, that wants to kill the heart -- the love -- in us ...
Do you practice lucid dreaming?
The important thing because you have been having the dream since 1983 is how the emotions have evolved. Do you feel stronger now? Are you left feeling that you can tackle any change that needs to be carried out. Or do you feel sad or anxious.
Sometimes what is important is how we are left feeling.
I hope you are feeling great and have a very good weekend.
Renee xoxo
